Automation in motion

See It Move Before You Choose It

Motorized shades reach the windows you cannot: arches, high openings and whole walls of glass. One touch, one schedule, one room at a time.

PowerView® Automation

Control Your Space, Your Way

From simple one-touch control to scheduled and connected whole-home automation, PowerView® gives you different ways to control compatible Hunter Douglas window treatments. Our team can help you determine which options make sense for your space.

01 — Handheld control

PowerView® Remote

The handheld Pebble® Remote gives on-demand control without reaching for a phone. Hunter Douglas states that it operates up to six groups of window treatments, so one remote can move a single shade, a window wall or a whole room. A wall-mounted Pebble Surface Remote is also available where you would rather it stayed in one place.

Remotes and app control are not either-or. Many of our clients use both, and we help you decide what each room actually needs.

02 — Scenes and schedules

PowerView® App

The PowerView® App lets you set scenes that move each shade to a preferred position, then schedule those scenes to run on their own through the day. Hunter Douglas notes that scenes can even be scheduled to move with the sunrise or sunset, and that the app works with Apple and Android phones and tablets.

It is the difference between owning motorized shades and never having to think about them again.

03 — Connected homes

PowerView® Gateway

Adding a Gateway is what turns a set of motorized shades into part of the house. Hunter Douglas describes it as providing integration with other manufacturers’ smart-home systems and access to Remote Connect, so shades can be adjusted from anywhere in the world. It also acts as a range extender for larger homes and gives the best experience for shades in multiple rooms.

Integrations named by Hunter Douglas include Amazon Alexa voice control and, for Gen 3 systems, Apple Home through Matter, alongside professionally installed platforms such as Control4. We confirm what your specific system supports before anything is ordered.

Sheers That Keep the View

Hunter Douglas lists smart automation as a control option for both Silhouette® and Pirouette® window shadings, operated by app, remote or a compatible smart-home system. These are the treatments we specify most often when a room needs daylight and privacy at the same time.

Shades, Blinds and Drapery

Depending on the product and configuration, automation is also offered on cellular and roman shades, roller and solar shades, vertical treatments, Luminette® privacy sheers and motorized drapery track. Not every operating system is available on every treatment, so we confirm compatibility for your specific windows before ordering.

Power

Power That Fits the Project

The right power solution depends on the treatment, window, room and how the space is being planned. Our team can help determine the appropriate option before ordering and installation.

Battery & Rechargeable

Hunter Douglas offers a rechargeable battery wand and an internal rechargeable battery that installs inside the headrail, with battery life quoted at approximately one year. A solar charger is available to remove manual recharging in most windows.

Plug-In Power

An 18V DC power supply plugs into a standard household outlet. Hunter Douglas lists it as standard with traversing PowerView systems and as an optional power source for most other systems.

Larger Installations

For bigger projects, Hunter Douglas offers a 16-shade DC power supply that can power up to sixteen window treatments from one source. Where power has to be planned into the building, that conversation belongs before drywall, not after.

Automation beyond the shade

Blinds. Drapery. Sheers.

Automation isn’t limited to traditional shades. Talk to our team about motorization for blinds, custom drapery and sheers, including motorized track solutions and compatible automation options for your project.

Motorized Track

Drapery and sheers move on a track rather than a roller, which makes the hardware and the power plan as important as the fabric. We specify track, brackets, returns and motor together so the finished treatment stacks and closes the way it should.

Then We Hang It

Traversing systems are unforgiving if a track is out of level or the stack is wrong. Our installers set, align and test the finished treatment before they leave, and set up the motorized controls with you.

Expertise

Motorization Is Not One-Size-Fits-All

The right automation solution depends on your window treatment, room, power availability, number of windows and how you want to control them. Our team can help you compare the options and specify a system that works for your project.

Treatment Type

A roller shade, a cellular shade and a drapery track are three different mechanical problems. The treatment decides much of the rest.

Power Source

Battery, rechargeable, solar-assisted or plug-in. Access, window height and how many treatments are involved all matter.

Remote or App Control

Some clients want one button by the door. Others want everything on a phone. Most want both.

Schedules & Scenes

If the shades should move on their own, we plan the scenes with you and set them up at handover.

Smart-Home Compatibility

If there is an existing platform in the home, the Gateway and the integration need to be confirmed before ordering.

Single Room or Whole Home

One bedroom and a whole house are different specifications, from grouping and range to power planning.

Installation

We don’t stop at the product. We help you measure it, specify it, automate it and install it.

Professional Installation, From Start to Finish

Great window coverings depend on more than the product. Accurate measurements, correct specifications and professional installation all affect how the finished treatment looks and performs.

Our work

Installed, Aligned and Tested

These are automated sheers installed by our team in Vancouver. The same process sits behind every job on this page: check measure on site, motor and power specified before the order, track hung level, limits set, then the finished treatment tested and demonstrated to you.

If you are planning motorization, the earlier we are involved, the fewer compromises you have to make later.

Questions

Installation & Automation, Answered

What happens during a professional check measure?

We measure every opening on site rather than working from drawings. We check the window for square, look at depth, sill and trim conditions, confirm mounting surfaces, and note anything that affects how a treatment will hang or operate. If motorization is planned, this is also where we confirm the power route and the motor and control options for each opening.

Can motorization be added to window coverings I already have?

Motorization is specified with the order rather than added afterwards, because the motor, the operating system and the headrail are built as one unit. If you already have treatments you like, the practical route is to motorize the windows that matter most and keep the rest manual. We will tell you honestly which openings are worth automating first.

Do motorized blinds need to be hardwired?

Not necessarily. Hunter Douglas PowerView shades can run on battery power, and larger installations can be run from a plug-in power supply instead. The right choice depends on the number of shades, their size, how often they move and whether power is reachable at the window. We work that out at the check measure, before anything is ordered, which is when it is still cheap to change.

How do I control PowerView shades once they are installed?

You can operate them from a PowerView remote, from the Hunter Douglas app on your phone or tablet, and by voice through a supported smart home assistant. Shades can be grouped so a whole room or elevation moves together, and scenes can be set for the times of day you actually use. We set this up and walk you through it before we leave.

Do you install drapery and sheers, or only blinds?

Both. Alongside blinds, shades and shutters we install custom drapery and sheers, including motorized track systems. Fabric is less forgiving than a headrail: a track that is a few millimetres out of level shows in every fold, so drapery and sheers are hung, dressed and tested the same way a shade is aligned and limit-set.

Why does professional installation matter this much for automation?

A motorized treatment repeats the same movement thousands of times. Anything that is slightly out — a bracket that is not level, a limit set a little short, a motor specified for the wrong weight — is not a one-off flaw, it is a fault you see and hear every single day. Getting the measure, the specification and the installation right is what makes automation feel effortless instead of temperamental.

Do you work with interior designers, builders and trade clients?

Yes. We work with designers, builders and trade partners on both single rooms and multi-unit projects, from specification and check measures through to installation and handover. You can see how that works on our Trade Services page.

Can I see automation working before I commit to it?

That is exactly what the showroom is for. You can move motorized treatments yourself, try the remote and the app, compare fabrics against each other in real light, and see how sheers, shades and shutters behave before you choose. Our Hunter Douglas range is on display alongside the automation options.
